“The plans for Burnholme offer a unique opportunity to deliver a range of new facilities in this part of York and I look forward to seeing them progress further.”

Bidders will be asked to submit proposals over the next 10 weeks for a care home to provide residential and nursing care, including care for people living with dementia.

The specification also includes an agreement for the council to ‘block purchase’ up to 30 beds in the home at a discount.

The bids will be evaluated and presented to the council’s executive on 8 December.

Plans for the site also include continued sports use, a health centre and new family homes.
