Care home build director Steve Day has provided insight into Wynbrook’s partnership with Adept Care.

Steve spoke to Care Home Professional following the completion of Adept Care’s £7.8m Kiwi House care home in Derby (see Adept Care handed keys to ‘luxury hotel’ home).

“Historically, we were a housing developer so we’ve only been in the care market for five or six years,” Steve said.

“We’ve brought a lot of that development skill into the process and design led stuff. It’s important we keep our hands on the operation of our business.”

Wynbrook worked closely with Adept Care managing director Dave Lock on the completion of Kiwi House.

“We have an evolving relationship so Dave still thinks he’s getting value for money,” Steve said.

“The tendering process doesn’t do anybody any real huge favours. Dave wants a building contractor whose going to be dependable and produce the goods they want.

“We’ve got that understanding. How much we bring to them is more than some people would.”

Steve said it was important to develop a close working relationship with care home operators on a build project.

“If Dave went to one of the big boys it might cost him a little bit more and he would be working with some of the middle management of the organisation,” Steve said.

“He’s going to be working with the owners of the business. That’s quite important in what we’re trying to do. We’re not trying to work with some of the big care groups.

“We’re trying to work with smaller operators that we can have a good relationship with and an ongoing relationship.”
