Sussex Police has arrested a woman on suspicion of neglect as part of its investigation into 12 deaths at care homes run by Sussex Health Care (SHC).
An investigation into the deaths of people between April 2015 and June 2017 was launched by police earlier this year (see Police probe Sussex Health Care deaths).
Sussex Police said: “A woman from West Sussex has been arrested on suspicion of neglect under the Criminal Justice and Courts Act and fraud in connection with the investigation into Sussex Healthcare.”
The probe into the deaths was widened after police raided eight SHC homes and seized evidence in August.
A SHC spokesperson commented: “We understand that one person has been arrested. We continue to cooperate fully with the police in their investigation, and are not able to comment further at this stage.”
A West Sussex County Council spokesperson added: “We cannot comment on any part of the police investigation. Our priority has always been, and will remain, the safety and care of people living in care homes.
“We are there to keep people safe – that is our job and we continue to do it. We continue to work with partners, including health, the CQC and police, to look in detail at care at a number of services run by Sussex Health Care.”
