West Sussex County Council launches consultation on care home closure

Marjorie Cobby House

West Sussex County Council has launched a consultation on the closure of Marjorie Cobby House in Selsey.

The council said it was looking to close the 34-bed home, which supports people after they have been discharged from hospital in the Chichester and Bognor Regis areas, in 2022.

The council stated: “The full number of beds have not been used in recent years and a recent review identified there is not currently a need for all 34 beds. In addition, the building will not be suitable in the future to accommodate people with more complex physical care needs without further significant investment and the location of the building is not always ideal to meet the need across the area.”

In its statement the council said it was committed to finding alternative services for people who need short-term residential care and rehabilitation support.

The outcome of the consultation will inform how the service is best provided in the future. A decision will be taken by the county council’s cabinet in November.

More details about the proposals and how to take part in the consultation are available on the county council’s Marjorie Cobby consultation page where you can have your say by leaving your comments.
