Miele Professional said: “Every care home professional knows that infection prevention and control is a priority. This part of the day to day running of a care home cannot be overlooked and not just because of COVID. Infections can spread very quickly in an environment when you have many vulnerable people in close proximity to each other so ensuring that you have the very best practices in place is a necessity rather than a nice to have. One of the first lines of defence in your care home is the laundry – the place where infections can be either eliminated or spread depending upon the way that processes are handled.

“But in a busy environment, how can you be certain that all the correct procedures are being adhered to? Can you be certain that soiled and clean laundry never gets mixed up? Do all your carers know how to use the water-soluble bags properly? How about the different ways linen needs to be handled according to the type of infection that you are dealing with? Infection prevention and control is a mandatory training requirement for all care staff but unless this training is reinforced with everyday working practices it can be all too easy to forget the key things that protect your residents and your staff.”
