Virtual Reality technology has allowed a Yorkshire care home resident to experience her son’s wedding day.

Yorkare Homes’ Westfield Park resident Shirley, who is living with dementia, was able to experience her son’s wedding in Italy through an Avantis Virtual Reality headset.

Shirley’s son Ric commented: “I continue to be impressed with the level of support and care my mum receives at Westfield Park.

“Without their forward-thinking innovations my mum would not have been able to experience our wedding. Even though it was only a virtual experience, mum loved it and it meant the world to us that we were able to involve her in some way.”

Yorkare Homes recently bought all its care homes Avantis Virtual Reality headsets after a successful trial with a number of residents at Westfield Park.

The equipment has allowed residents to experience safaris, walking the Great Wall of China and skydiving.

It can now also be used to allow residents to share experiences recorded by their families through a 360 degree camera recently bought by Yorkare.
