Thomas Owen Care is seeking planning permission to build a 40-bed care home in Leeds.

The scheme in Richmond Hill would involve the demolition of a former nursing home and day centre, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

The home is planned to cater for a shortage of care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia in the area.

Seven qualified nurses and 45 care support workers, as well as 12 ancillary staff, are proposed under the scheme.

The home’s grounds would include an outdoor patio, gazebo, greenhouse and nature areas.
