Care home operator Healthcare Management Solutions is investing £319,000 in its Sherford Manor service in Taunton.

The home, which is part of Larchwood Care and offers residential and nursing care for up to 105 people, has had its dementia and nursing units refurbished as well as improvements made to residents’ rooms and communal areas.

Katrina Ball, Manager of Sherford Manor, who was recently appointed at the home (see Larchwood Care appoints experienced home manager) said: “Our residents are absolutely delighted with the improvements we’ve made at Sherford Manor. Comfort and care are our highest priority and making these improvements are essential to achieving this.

“A lot of work has gone in to make sure the facilities are of an excellent quality, and we are certain that both the residents and their families will love spending time in our lounge area and garden.”

Alison Boote, Operations Director for Healthcare Management Solutions, said: “This investment is one of many important improvements taking place at Sherford Manor. The refurbishment will make life far easier for those with dementia, and will help to make all residents feel more at home.”

The ongoing refurbishment also includes redecoration, new furniture, a seaside mural, a fully refurbished dining/lounge area, and upgraded bathroom facilities.

Dementia friendly design incorporated into the home includes ensuring any handrails can be clearly seen using a contrasting colour on the wall behind and changes in flooring to differentiate between the dining room and lounge area. A room was also allocated to an in-house ‘shop’ for the residents, and a quiet lounge was created.
