A survey by Ipsos MORI on behalf of Your Care Rating has found that the relatives of 93% of care home residents are satisfied with the overall standards of their homes.
The pollsters invited over 16,500 people to take part in the survey, with half of them responding. It is described as the largest research project of its kind speaking to the relatives of residents rather than the residents themselves.
The questions were devised in collaboration with 14 major care home operators and questioned relatives on their satisfaction with care and support, the physical environment and facilities, the atmosphere and social life within the homes and the quality of staff and management.
Douglas Quinn, chairman of Your Care Rating, says: “This has been the first year of surveying the thoughts of relatives and friends regarding care home provision. We have looked at a range of areas from the quality of the food, through the relatives’ perception of how happy their loved ones are, to the professionalism of the staff.
“The relatives’ survey very much complements our successful residents’ survey and, going forward, we believe it will help provide the most in-depth view of the country’s care home sector from those closest to it.”
