Surrey care facility bags second successive ‘good’ rating from regulator

A Surrey residential care home providing support to people requiring rehabilitation and complex nursing care has received a ‘good’ rating in its latest review by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), maintaining its standing from 2022.

Kingston Rehabilitation Centre in Kingston-upon-Thames is purpose-built for providing specialist care for both acquired and traumatic brain injuries and life-changing neurological injuries as well as orthopaedic and residential care needs.

The facility, which opened in 2019, is part of CHD Living, a family-owned and -operated group of care facilities, with more than 35 years of experience.

The care centre’s review by the CQC found that residents were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and that staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests. CQC inspections are carried out regularly to ensure that services are providing care that’s safe, caring, effective, responsive to people’s needs and well-led – the inspection’s key framework requirements.

On the latest review and rating, Kingston’s Registered Manager, Rohana King said: “CQC inspections and ratings are an important part of safeguarding those in care and ensuring high standards across the sector. We work hard to ensure we meet the key framework requirements but also so that our residents feel at home in our services.

“I’m pleased that the CQC saw in my team what I see every day and that we’ve maintained the rating from last year.”

The Kingston Rehab Centre team is trained to offer care for a number of conditions, including tracheostomy care, long-term management of complex neurodisability, and rehabilitation of a variety of neurological conditions.

This is all supported by the care of on-site health professionals, who offer rehabilitation medicine, clinical psychology and dietary support.

Residents at the centre have access to a range of therapy facilities, including treatment rooms, an occupational therapy assessment kitchen, a physiotherapy gym and a hydrotherapy pool.

Rehabilitation at Kingston is goal-oriented, with the view to helping people regain their quality of life, maximise their independence and achieve their potential.

CHD Living’s head of communications, hospitality and commissioning, Shaleeza Hasham, said: “We are a family-run business and we want that family feel and ethos to extend to our residents and staff. We’re so proud of the Kingston Rehabilitation Centre team for this latest rating and their commitment to our residents.”

Kingston Rehabilitation Centre’s last inspection was in January 2022 and the service has maintained its rating 12-months on.
