St Matthews Healthcare has submitted revised plans a 74-bedroom new build care home in Uckfield, East Sussex.
The group operates six homes offering residential and day care for dementia and mental health.
The new Uckfield home has been working its way through planning with Wealden District Council. The site was previously owned East Sussex County Council, which ran a care home there.
A planning statement submitted this month by Carless & Adams Partnership on behalf of St Matthews Healthcare made the case:
“The proposed development will enhance this area of Uckfield and has been carefully designed to ensure that appropriate provision is made for access, and to ensure a high standard of accommodation for future residents. The amenities of the surrounding residential properties will be preserved.
“The development will provide purpose built residential care accommodation for the elderly in an accessible location in Uckfield. Wealden has an ageing population in common with much of the UK, providing specialist accommodation for those in need accords with the achievement of a mix of accommodation types available in the area in accordance with guidance set out in the National Planning Policy Framework.
“ The proposal respects the existing developments in the area and the design approach is appropriate for this location. The proposal includes provision for landscaping necessary to provide amenity to the residents and provide the development with a setting appropriate to its location.”
