Somerset Care Group has announced the appointment of three non-executive directors.

The moves come after a board vacancy was created by the appointment of Dr Jane Townson as chief executive in June 2015. Another two non-executive directors, Richard Barnfield and Jim Iles, plan to retire in October.

Richard Ring takes up his new post as non-executive director after joining Somerset Care Group in June 2016. Richard is chief financial officer and retail operations director for the apetito Group, a specialist care home meal supplier.

Somerset Care chairman Chris Davies said: “Jim and Richard will be much-missed. They have brought huge experience and wisdom to the group for a long time. We have been very fortunate to recruit so strongly to these important positions. As non-executive directors, Richard, Roger and Sarah will bring broad experience and incisive thinking, as well as caring commitment.

“These are not easy times for the care sector, but we are convinced that the Somerset Care Group has a bright future. So many vulnerable people rely on us every minute of every day, and we are determined to offer them the best possible chance to achieve what matters to them. This wise, ambitious Board will steer us forward confidently.”
