Social care employee referral app sees ‘unprecedented’ interest

Care providers employing 20% of England’s entire adult social care workforce have enquired about the new Care Friends app, following its launch last week in partnership with Skills for Care.

The Care Friends app was first conceived by Saving Social Care author and sector recruitment specialist Neil Eastwood in 2018 and went on to win EU funding for pilot trials during 2019. Skills for Care has been supporting the development of the technology and announced their partnership as the app officially launched last week.

Employers have reacted very positively to the announcement and the company now has enquiries from care providers of all sizes, together employing over 300,000 of the sector’s 1.49 million workforce in England. Employers from Ireland, Australia and the US have also been in touch.

Neil Eastwood, founder and CEO of Care Friends, said: “The idea of an app that allows care staff to earn points instantly during each step when they refer a friend to join their team first came to me in August 2018. I wanted to find a way to mine the rich seam of personal connections which, research shows, delivers the highest performing care workers time and time again. It has been a long road of testing and overcoming challenges to get to where we are now, so it is extremely gratifying that employers have reacted as positively as they have.”

Employers involved in the pilots have reported much lower no-show rates for interviews and better retention figures for new starters.
