Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid has thanked health and social care staff for their efforts this Christmas and all-year round.

Mr Javid’s message came as health and social care workers faced a renewed COVID threat from the Omicron variant.

In a video message posted on Twitter, Mr Javid said: “This year, everyone working in health and social care has shown our country at its very best. Whether it’s the way the NHS continues to rise to meet the challenges of the pandemic or how our vaccine programme has delivered over 100 million life-saving jabs, or the kindness and compassion of our social care workforce, your efforts have lifted the hearts of millions of people across this country.

“I know that for people working in health and social care, the Christmas period can be one of the most difficult times as the pressures of the winter weeks take their toll. While families are coming together, you are there – day and night – looking out for others.

“This is especially true this year, as we face down COVID-19 once again with the renewed threat from Omicron a challenge that is made all the harder because it’s our second Christmas in a pandemic.

“So to everyone working in health and social care over this Christmas period, I want to say a huge thank you.

“Thank you for everything that you’ve done and everything that you’re doing – this Christmas, and all year round. You continue to be the very best of us – you achieve phenomenal things and I’m proud to call you colleagues.

“Merry Christmas – and a happy new year.”

  1. Just please give all social care workers in care Homes and the community a bonus from the government- all the thanks and comments of hardwork is worthless – we have been on the frontline throughout .
