Four Seasons Health Care may be closing care homes in Northern Ireland, but Runwood Homes, which operates 65 residences across the UK, is adding to the seven that it currently has in the country.

Runwood is opening a new care home in Glengormley, which will create jobs for 120 people and house up to 80 residents.

Four Seasons recently announced it would be closing seven care homes in Northern Ireland, saying that it could not make money in the current financial climate.

However, John Rafferty, Runwood Homes’ Northern Ireland director, believes the company’s homes can be run profitably. “While it is a difficult time for the private care home industry, I feel that we have a clear vision to build a sustainable model that will be economically sound and deliver best practice within the community.

“I have installed a team in Northern Ireland that shares this vision and will lead us forward in developing a model of clinical excellence.”
