Resident dies during fire at Aintree care home


A resident has died during a fire at a specialist care home for adults with complex needs in Merseyside.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended the fire at Exemplar Health Care’s Brook View care home on the Aintree University Hospital Campus on Sunday morning.

Three fire engines were sent to the care home at 10.23am following the report of a fire in a flat at one of the home’s four units which provide care for up to 32 people.

Fire crews found one resident outside the building suffering from smoke inhalation. The resident and three members of staff received treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene. One of the staff members was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Firefighters entered the building after reports of one person still being inside a flat where a man’s body was sadly found.

Steve Melton, CEO at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We can confirm that one of our residents at our Brook View home in Liverpool sadly died on 28 November.

“We are supporting colleagues and the family at this difficult time, and are working with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Merseyside Police to investigate the incident.”
