Resident dies amidst COVID outbreaks at Scottish care homes

One resident has died amidst two major COVID-19 outbreaks at care homes in south west Scotland.

The outbreaks took place at Annan Court Care Home in Annan, which is operated by Advinia Health Care, and Carlingwark House in Castle Douglas, which is run by EachStep Care, part of Park Homes UK.

One resident has sadly died and 30 residents and staff have tested positive for COVID-19 following the outbreak at Annan Court, while a further 17 residents and staff have tested positive at Carlingwark House.

A spokesperson for Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership said: “Following outbreaks of COVID-19, Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership have been working in close partnership with the operators of Carlingwark House in Castle Douglas and Annan Court Care Home in Annan to ensure all necessary plans and protocols are in place to manage the outbreak.

“Very sadly, within the past week a resident at Annan Court Care Home has died within 28 days of a positive COVID test. Thoughts are with the residents and staff at the care home during this difficult time.”

D&G Health and Social Care said coronavirus cases were being recorded in “very high numbers” in  Annandale and Eskdale, Nithsdale, Stewartry and Wigtownshire.

Provisional figures show there were 2,825 cases in the region in the seven days ending 2 January, up from 872 cases in the previous seven days.
