Energy saving expert Radmiser is encouraging care homes to install smart heating controllers as a way to cut bills.
In an era of squeezed budgets, the company says homes that actively manage when and which rooms are heated can cut energy bills by a third.
Radmiser’s UK sales manager Alastair MacNicol told Care Home Professional that it will upgrade every radiator in a care home for under £50 per radiator as a special offer to the sector.
Each radiator has an actuator added, similar to a thermostatic valve, which communicates via a home’s wireless network to a central control panel.
Thanks to this communication, a care home manager can quickly shut down zones or individual rooms that do not need heating. They can also set the actuator so that radiators turn off if windows are opened to air rooms.
Mr MacNicol also explained a partnership offer created with Your Energy Friend, a switching company that evaluates any home’s energy use and proposes cheaper providers.
The combination of cheaper tariffs for energy, and the power savings achieved from the smart Radmiser system, mean that the cost of buying and installing the technology can be recouped inside two years, says Mr MacNicol.
