Scottish firm Colaren Homes has been allowed to drop plans for a development providing alternative housing for older residents is provided.

Land in Mintlaw had been earmarked for a new care home build but it was decided demand would not be adequate until 2032.

Planning officer Colm McKee recommended council members approved the change in plans to the project, The Press and Journal reported.

He told the Scottish paper: “This is essentially a change to an existing masterplan. The facility for the elderly would be removed.”

“The capacity plan shows there wouldn’t be an issue with demand until 2032. There are several further phases where this could be built. We recommend this be omitted.”

Some councillors disputed the idea that there would not be sufficient demand until 2032.
