Orchard Care Home has launched its second Chef of the Year competition as part of its ongoing partnership with Nestlé Professional.

The competition will see the top chef from Orchard’s 45-plus homes crowned in a Masterchef-style final in Manchester in May.

Dianne Lilley, Orchard Care Homes Food & Beverage Manager, said: “I’m really excited about the launch of the new competition, which will showcase some of the impressive culinary talent and creativity that exists across our homes. It will bring to the fore not just ability, but also artistic flair.

“Working within a care home environment can be extremely challenging, not only are there budget and time constraints, flavours need to be enhanced, texture needs to be considered and menus may need to be adapted to each resident and their needs. This competition focuses on this valuable part of home life and will celebrate those who go above and beyond within their role.”

The competition is open to all cooks and chefs within the group. Entrants will be asked to prepare and present four portions of food. The portions must comprise two portions of finger food style starters and two portions of a main course meal, one of which must be suitable for residents on a modified diet.

Each dish must contain at least one product from Nestlé Professional’s Maggi range, and be presented together with supporting information and photographs.
