Norovirus closes Londonderry care home

A norovirus outbreak has closed Brooklands care home in Northland Road, Londonderry.

The home was temporarily closed to the public after some of its residents were diagnosed with the virus, the BBC reported.

Brooklands owner Theresa Conway said: “It is quite disappointing. This is usually a happy time in our care homes so the fact that our residents can’t enjoy the entertainment we would have had in place is sad.

“Carol singers and music and the residents Christmas party have had to be cancelled but hopefully we can reconvene all that when the norovirus is cleared.

“It is difficult on the residents and difficult for the staff but in difficult times we do all pull together.”

All admissions along with Christmas celebrations have been cancelled.

Brooklands is run by Conway Group , which specialises in construction, property and healthcare.

Dating from the 1990s, the group’s healthcare operations include seven care homes.
