Two carers caught allegedly sleeping at a Four Seasons home have parted ways with their agency.
Following an investigation after a photograph emerged of the women apparently taking a nap during a break at Westroyd Care Home in Leicestershire, Fosse Health Care has terminated the contract of one of the carers, while the other, who maintained she was resting, no longer works for the agency.
A Four Seasons spokesperson said: “For a carer to be napping whilst they should be looking after elderly residents is a serious matter, regardless of whether they would have been woken by a resident’s call bell.
“This lets down the people in their care, their colleagues and their employer, but such cases are the exception to the overwhelming majority of care workers who are caring and dedicated people who do a demanding job extremely well to make a difference for the people in their care.”
Four Seasons immediately suspended the two carers following the incident (see Four Seasons agency workers over sleeping on duty allegations) and instigated an investigation between Westroyd and Fosse Health Care.
Leicestershire County Council Safeguarding Team and the CQC were also notified.
