Hurst Manor care home in Martock is to be given a luxury make-over following its acquisition by The Care Home Group.

The former nursing home, which was acquired by The Care Home Group through Christie & Co, is to be transformed into a five-star luxury residential property.

Sean Murray, CEO of The Care Home Group , said: “We are delighted to add the historic Hurst Manor to our growing property portfolio. Having set the benchmark very high with our first development at Latimer Lodge we are looking forward to bringing the Manor back to life and re-opening it as a beautiful home for residents seeking that extra bit of luxury in their later years.”

The Grade II-listed Hurst Manor closed in August 2016 with its 21 elderly residents relocated after its operator decided to close and sell the premises.

The home was rated ‘requires improvement’ by the CQC on its last inspection in May 2016.

It is scheduled to reopen as a luxury, boutique-style home in the summer of 2017.

Simon Harvey, director at Christie & Co, said: “This sale continues to show the appetite for a wide variety of care home opportunities across the south west.  The numerous others that are currently ongoing suggest that the market will remain active with a diverse range of potential purchasers, and we anticipate that this will show no sign of letting up during 2017.

“We are delighted to have assisted the previous owners with the sale and wish the directors of The Care Home Group well with their future plans.”
