Plans for a group of retirement properties in a Yorkshire village have been objected to by both locals and the council.

Developer SageHaus Living said that there was a “significant demand” for the homes in, which will also come with options for care.

Kirk Hammerton locals, however, feel otherwise, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The newspaper reported that six locals in the village objected to the plans, saying the modern building would not be in keeping with the rest of the village.

The local council has created a report on the plans, saying the development would bring “little benefit” to the area.

The report said: “The scale, form and layout of the development is not characteristic of the settlement pattern of Kirk Hammerton or the local area and will have an adverse impact upon the local and wider landscape character, local distinctiveness and adverse visual effects.

“The proposed development will lead to a loss of openness, loss of countryside and loss of connection with the wider countryside as a result of the combination of the development, its infrastructure and landscape mitigation contrary to Local Plan Policy NE4.”
