The winner of the Innovation in Home Care Award, sponsored by everyLIFE Technologies, is Good Oaks Home Care.
Good Oaks Home Care, a business offering home visits and live-in care throughout Dorset, Mid Sussex and Reading, received this award for being recognised as the first home care provider to become 100% carbon neutral.
The company has worked with Carbon Footprint, an independent consultancy company, to measure carbon emissions across the business, from carers’ cars, to train journeys and office emissions.
It then offset this by planting trees locally and safeguarding trees in the Amazon. It has also been working on reducing its overall emissions by reducing travel journeys between visits and moving to 100% renewable energy.
Another innovation from Good Oaks is the Above and Beyond Rewards. These celebrate the extra things carers do for clients, every day. It has also implemented a unique ‘Good Oaks Operating System’, jokingly referred to as The GOOS. This is an interactive, visual repository of advice, template documents and step-by-step guidance.
It is pre-installed on each computer, and staff can search for what they need. For example, if they need to know how to add PRN Medication to a care plan, they simply search PRN and this filters the information to exactly what they need to know.
Zoe Kelly, operations director, said: “It feels amazing to win and we’re very proud to be the first homecare company to remove carbon emissions and be carbon free.”
