When seeking the ideal flooring for its unique Chocolate Care Works renovation project in York, Springfield Healthcare chose Karndean Designflooring.

Karndean’s Opus Terra luxury vinyl tiles were used alongside some of the original wooden planks from the factory in the home’s unique central bustling marketplace.

Mark Gibbons, Managing Director of MG Flooring, contractors for the project, said the warm, earthy tones of Opus Terra were an “ideal fit for the design specification”.

He continued: “The product looks great in the vast space and it’s very warm and welcoming which the residents will appreciate. The zoning effect will help the visually impaired and distinguishes one key area from another.

“The square cut of this product makes it easy for us to handle, which you don’t get with all vinyl products, and gives the room a modern feeling. It’s also great with underfloor heating and has an R10 slip resistance rating which is just what you need when providing for the elderly.”

Leading the way to the grand atrium is a nostalgic corridor fitted with Knight Tile Mid Brushed Oak, chosen because “it had all the characteristics of the original floor, but with durability of vinyl”, explained Mark.

As well as having a realistic traditional grain pattern and brushed texture, the flooring will be able to withstand the most demanding environments, including heavy footfall, wheelchairs, and the constant moving of equipment.

Home Manager Sarah Paskett said: “Karndean Designflooring have an excellent reputation for serviceability and durability and they certainly lived up to our expectations – we love the flooring and it’s so easy to maintain and keep clean.”
