North-east entrepreneur and care provider Helen McArdle CBE has been honoured for her outstanding contribution to social care.
McArdle received the award at the Marriott Gosforth Park Newcastle at the finals of the Great North East Care Awards.
McArdle, who founded Helen McArdle Care in 1989 along with her husband and four children, said: “The award was totally unexpected, I had no idea that I had even been nominated, so it was such a lovely surprise to win.
“I am so proud to have received this award in the north east where Helen McArdle Care is based; I work with so many caring people who are dedicated to making a difference and I couldn’t have achieved this without them.”
Sean McArdle, Helen’s son and director of service and wellbeing at Helen McArdle Care, was also a finalist at the awards in the category of Care Innovator for his work with Smoothfood, the operator’s pureed food solution.
McArdle will now go through to the finals at Birmingham’s ICC which takes place in March next year.
Family-owned business, Helen McArdle Care currently manages 19 care homes and employs over 1,300 staff with a turnover of almost £32m. In October and November, two new Helen McArdle Care homes opened in Newton Aycliffe (St. Clare’s Court) and Jesmond (Fleming Court), with the 20th to open in Peterlee next year (Grampian Court).
