Health and Social Care Secretary praises ‘outstanding’ Suffolk nursing home

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock has heaped praise on a Suffolk nursing home after it was rated ‘outstanding’ for a second time.

Stow Healthcare’s Brandon Park Nursing Home in Brandon was rated outstanding following a visit by inspectors in September.

Mr Hancock, who is the local MP for Brandon, said: “What a fantastic achievement for Brandon Park Nursing Home to be given an ‘outstanding’ rating by the CQC for the second time.  This rating is undoubtedly due to the caring and dedicated management and staff of the nursing home.”

The CQC praised the home for its “exceptionally strong family ethos” where “people were at the forefront of their care and were supported by staff who were extremely kind and caring”.

Mr Hancock added: “It is wonderful that the residents of Brandon Park feel that they are being listened to by the staff and that they feel so well supported by them and we need more of these caring and compassionate facilities so that older people can get the best care possible in their later years. Many congratulations to all at Brandon Park Nursing Home.”

The home’s manager Sam Gallagher was singled out as an “extremely strong and knowledgeable manager who was also highly visible across the home”.

Sam said: “I am delighted with this report which truly captures the essence of the way that we care for our residents at Brandon Park.  I am proud to be the manager of this home, which has a dedicated staff team and residents who are simply inspirational.”

Stow Healthcare’s Managing Director Roger Catchpole said: “I founded Stow Healthcare with my family just over eight years ago.  In that time, we have taken on five homes, all of which had troubled pasts, and all of which we have improved beyond measure, with two homes rated outstanding.  For Brandon Park to achieve the outstanding rating for a second time, sees it stay in a very exclusive club of quality homes, which we are very proud to belong to.”
