Health and care sector second-fastest growing in UK

Human health and social work activities also came up as the sector with the fewest redundancies

Despite an overall decline in the total number of businesses by 1.48%, some sectors have shown resilience and growth in 2023, with the health sector coming second out of all industries.

This comes via money.co.uk, which has analysed government data to reveal which industries grew in 2023 despite an overall decline in the number of UK businesses.

The report reads: “The health sector experienced a growth of 2.75%, increasing from 106,175 to 109,095 businesses.

“This sector’s growth reflects how vital healthcare is in any society.

“In particular, there has been an increasing demand for private healthcare due to the challenges such as staff shortages facing the NHS.

“As people look to avoid lengthy waiting lists, private GPs and other healthcare providers have become more popular.”

Healthcare was only beaten by the property industry to the top spot on money.co.uk’s list of which businesses saw the most growth in 2023.

Human health and social work activities also came up as the sector with the fewest redundancies, taking the joint top spot.
