Green Paper consultation launched on social care workforce

A consultation on the challenges facing the social care workforce that will feed into the Government’s Green Paper this summer, has been launched by the Department of Health and Social Care and Skills for Care.

Stakeholders are invited to offer their views on what can be done to address the challenges facing the social care workforce, including: attracting and recruiting workers; improving retention and professional development; considering the role of regulation; and ensuring effective workforce planning.

Minister of State for Care, Caroline Dinenage said: “The social care workforce is the backbone of the care sector and is dedicated to caring for society’s most vulnerable people. We know there are challenges – that’s why we need to ensure the workforce is supported to enable the transformation needed to deliver the best quality of care into the future.

“I urge everyone involved in, or working in care, to take part in the consultation – this is your chance to help shape the future for the adult social care workforce.”

Responses will feed into a joint health and social care workforce strategy as well as informing the Government’s Green Paper.
