Gracewell Healthcare will open four new homes this year, taking the total estate to 16 across the UK.

Gracewell was acquired by Sunrise Senior Living 18 months ago. It was operating 11 homes at the time, and soon afterwrds opened its 12th residence in Edgbaston.

The pipeline of Gracewell new builds that Sunrise acquired will result in new openings this year at Knowle Gate in the Midlands in May. This will be followed by homes in Newbury, Camberley and Bourneville near Birmingham in the Autumn.

In an interview with Care Home Professional that will be published in the May edition of the magazine, Amanda Scott, managing director of Gracewell Healthcare and Sunrise, said that the company wants to continue opening around four homes per year, and would not rule out acquiring other operators in order to maintain dramatic growth for the group.

The company plans for “growth through new builds and new openings. We are always interested in land and growing the pipeline. We will always study where we feel there is a need for a new home, not just in the format that we are delivering now, but also looking at younger people with early onset dementia; people with physical disabilities. Our minds are not closed to just one model; one type of build or one customer. We are really open to new ideas for growth,” Ms Scott said.

The May edition of Care Home Professional is out next week. The magazine is free of charge to senior executives in the care home industry. Click here to subscribe.
