Care workers flocked to a stand offering a new Personal Protection Equipment Product (PPE) at the Care & Dementia show yesterday.
New company GIP Skins’ PPE product, which has been developed with Dartex, is designed to reduce the risk of work related injury and prevent or reduce infections such as MRSA from skin to skin contact.
Product inventor Charise Mullings said: “The support we have we have had from carers has been amazing.”
After spending seven years working in the care sector, Charise wanted to come up with a solution to the problem which has been identified by the Research Advisory Group with partners including Skills for Care, the NHS and Unison.
The wipe clean, water proof and reusable product, which has been three years in development, provides anti fungal and infection resistance to carers and is designed to help reduce work related injury claims to providers of up to £6,000.
Financial director of the Nottingham based company Sebastian Rose said: “We are hoping this will be as important as the hard hat.”
Initial feedback from care workers visiting the stand was overwhelmingly positive with one commenting: “It’s going to solve the problem. It’s going to make a huge difference.”
Another added: “We should have had this a long time ago.”
