An innovative software application is helping to ease the bed blocking crisis in Hertfordshire’s hospitals.

Hertfordshire Care Providers Association and Hertfordshire County Council have teamed up with the NHS to introduce OLM Systems’ BedFinder solution, which has saved 350 bed days in less than six months.

BedFinder reduces the time spent looking for a care home vacancy by more than 70% leading to quicker hospital discharge and increased care home occupancy rates while also providing free advertising for care homes.

The system allows social care and hospital teams to quickly find bed vacancies through listing them all in one place.

The free system enables care home providers to accept or reject bookings and ensure maximum occupancy.

A public facing system will be launched over the coming months to allow people to search for bed vacancies, as well as gain information about care homes, including CQC ratings.
