Devon and Northamptonshire councils announce care worker bonuses

Consumers Feel The Pinch With Christmas Around The Corner

Devon and Northamptonshire county councils have announced bonuses for their care workers.

Devon County Council announced a £5.3m investment in residential and nursing care, equivalent to around £500 per carer, while Northamptonshire is offering a £600 bonus to all care workers at regulated services.

Simon Tapley, Deputy Chief Executive of NHS Devon Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Care workers across Devon will be caring for people this Christmas day, just as they do every other day of the year. I am delighted that we are able to recognise their hard work and the essential role that they have played, throughout the pandemic, in supporting Devon’s health and care system.”

Payments in Northamptonshire to existing and new starter care workers will be made on March 31 2022. To qualify as a new starter, individuals must be new to CQC regulated care and support and recruited on or before the end of January 2022.

Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council, said: “The care sector does a remarkable job in looking after our most vulnerable but the past two years, with rising demand and the challenges of the pandemic, has shown that they are absolutely invaluable to our communities.

“As such it’s only right that we take these extra measures to ensure that they are properly rewarded for all of their hard work and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to work with partners across the county to make this a reality.”
