Dementia friendly film screenings are proving a hit with residents at a cinema in Cambridgeshire.
The screenings at The Light Cinema in Wisbech are being provided for residents from Larchwood Care’s Dove Court care home.
Nicole Thompson, Home Manager at Dove Court, said: “At Dove Court, we are committed to providing stimulating and interesting activities for our residents. It is important to us to offer enjoyable and fun events that keep the mind active, particularly for our residents living with dementia.
“We are delighted that our local cinema has started to host dementia-friendly screenings, as this means our residents can enjoy a trip to the cinema without it becoming distressing for them. It’s an absolutely brilliant scheme, and I hope more cinemas start them up in the future.”
The screenings of old classics such as The Wizard of Oz and Kiss Me Kate include refreshments and sing-a-long entertainment to help those living with memory loss.
Dove Court Care Home is part of Larchwood Care and is managed by Healthcare Management Solutions. The service provides residential care for up to 76 older people.
