Day services to close at six Shaw healthcare care homes

West Sussex Council has decided to close day services at six care homes run by Shaw healthcare.

The decision was made during a council meeting last week where it was revealed that attendance was down to 40% following the pandemic, the Crawley Observer reported.

The services affected are: Burleys Wood, Crawley (pictured), Deerswood Lodge, Crawley, Forest View, Burgess Hill, Mill River Lodge, Horsham, Rotherlea, Petworth and Warmere Court, Yapton.

Keith Hinkley, director of adult social services, said: “The proposals will enable us to achieve savings without reducing the level of services that we provide.

“But, most importantly, would enable us to achieve the very best we can within our fixed resources, and commission the most support we possibly can to support people in the community.”

The decision will save the council around £750,000.

Martin Vanhinsgergh, Regional Director of Shaw healthcare, commented: “Shaw and West Sussex County Council share the vision of delivering high quality care for people and over time the balance of where support is needed alters, these changes reflect that.

“The day care closures will not affect the other care services that we operate for the council, and we will continue to support them by adapting our services to meet the local care requirements based on their analysis.”
