A CQC spokesperson said: “The home is now closed and we have been working very closely with Herefordshire Council with regard to the welfare of those using the service and their future care.

“CQC takes this kind of action only in the most serious of cases and after working with providers and other agencies, such as local authorities, to try and help drive through improvement in services.

“We will continue to work with Herefordshire Council with regard to the home and its former residents.”

Issues highlighted in its last inspection, included failure to notify the CQC or the local authority of safeguarding concerns, injuries sustained by people, or incidents involving the police.

The CQC added the service had not identified concerns and issues highlighted during the course of its inspection.

It said the provider did not have oversight of the day-to-day running of the service or information recorded in people’s care.
