Council seeks architect for care home redevelopment

Melton Council

A £80,000 contract is up for grabs for the redesign of a care home in Melton Mowbray, north Leicestershire.

Melton Borough Council is seeking an architect for the redevelopment of the Gretton Court care home, Architects’ Journal reports.

The contract notice for the redevelopment states: “The county council has already decided that the present facilities do not meet the minimum requirements for an extra care scheme in the medium-to-longer term, due in part to shared bathing facilities and the standards of the kitchens.

“Gretton Court needs investment, either to fulfil an upgraded role providing extra care units; or, if Gretton Court cannot be redeveloped to modern standards as a viable extra care unit, to redevelop the premises as a sheltered scheme.”

The council is seeking options to convert the 40-flat, 80s structure into a new care facility.

Gretton Court currently provides extra care for frail and elderly people. Its facilities include lift, lounge, dining room, laundry, guest facilities and garden.

The architect will also be asked to come up with proposals for amenities, including a gym, as well as potential funding options.

Applications are to be submitted by 30 September.
