Heroic care home staff who have taken the brave decision to ‘cocoon’ with their residents during lockdown have been flooded with support packages from colleagues.

The dedicated team at Excelcare’s Glennfield Care Home in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire were left “speechless” after colleagues at sister homes clubbed together to send essential items, home comforts and sweet treats, as well as personal messages of support.

A special letter included in the delivery read: “This hamper has been put together and our arms are around you all. We may not be with you in person, but we are with you in spirit. You are all amazing and we send you love, strength, and well wishes.”

An Excelcare spokesperson said: “Everyone at the home was left speechless; incredibly grateful to receive such generous and thoughtful gifts, as they spoke about how much of a positive difference they would make during such a difficult time.

“We recognise that this is a difficult time for many residents and their families, and we hope that through the current efforts of our teams within all 33 of our care homes that we will soon see normality restored once again and families reunited.

“This kind gesture is just one example of the wonderful teamwork going on throughout the Excelcare family which continues to amaze us each and every day.”
