Care UK announces temporary home closure

Structural and fire safety issues have led Care UK to announce the temporary closure of its Kingsfield Care Home in Faversham, Kent.

The home, which provides personal and nursing care for up to 90 older people, is to close at the end of this month for remedial work to take place.

A Care UK spokesperson said: “We have recently told residents, and their families, that Kingsfield care home will be temporarily closed while an extensive programme of urgent remedial work is undertaken.”

Care UK said it was working closely with the CQC, local clinicians and the local safeguarding team to ensure residents find appropriate alternative care.

The spokesperson said other care home providers had been supportive in coming to meet residents and assessing whether or not they can offer alternative accommodation.

More than a dozen residents have found a care home place with seven of these having moved over the past few days.

Care UK said it was providing full support to help residents move with their possessions and care records and medication and ensure they settle into their new homes.

The spokesperson said: “It is early days but I am hopeful that most residents will be accommodated within a seven mile radius of the home unless they choose to move elsewhere to be nearer family members or friends.”

Leaving this care home empty is criminal. It has now been closed for a couple of years with no work undertaken.. How can The local authority lets this sorry state of affairs persist. If there are structual issues shorly this should be the fault of the construction company and be up to them to rectify asap not have a virtualy new building stand empty. Shame on the company who owns the building
