Barclays Jamie Grant

Springboig based Care Homes Scotland has agreed a £3.8million loan with Barclays which will enable the company to expand its portfolio with the addition of a new nursing home facility.

The family run business currently operates a 70 bed bespoke build nursing home in Glasgow. Following its success, the company is embarking on an ambitious growth programme with the development of a new facility in the Campsie Fells.

The Clachan of Campsie will comprise a 95 bed nursing home offering care for adults. The site will also house a café, hairdressing salon, cinema and private dining rooms, allowing residents and their relatives to experience a neighbourhood atmosphere.

With four units over two floors, the facility will provide 150 new jobs including nurses, carers, catering and housekeeping staff.

Care Homes Scotland approached Barclays to support its business growth plans having banked with the organisation since the company was founded more than a decade ago. As the first bank to have a dedicated healthcare team, Barclays has 20 years’ experience providing specialist support to the sector. The deal was led by relationship directors Helen Hutchison and Lesley Dunbar.

Shal Oswal, director at Care Homes Scotland, commented: “Following the success of our first nursing home, it was the right time to consider an additional property. Having banked with Barclays and formed a close relationship with the team, it was a natural progression to approach the bank with our new business plans.

“We strive to operate our care homes as a home in every sense of the word. Our clients are supported to achieve independence and encouraged to be involved in the community. The new facility will allow us to deliver this ethos and service to even more clients.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Grant (pictured), head of business and corporate banking at Barclays, commented: “At Barclays we take pride in supporting ambitious businesses that demonstrate clear plans for growth. Our ability to provide specialist sectoral expertise combined with on the ground support allows us to offer our clients a service that is uniquely tailored to meet their needs. We are keen to help even more companies like Care Homes Scotland realise their ambitions and successfully navigate the changing economic landscape.”
