Care homes encouraged to consider disposable curtains to improve hygiene

Marshallbast Ltd is promoting the virtues of disposable curtains in care homes as a measure to improve hygiene without wasting time and money on constant laundering of traditional drapes.

The company’s Marlux Disposable Hospital Curtain System means that the rooms of vulnerable elderly residents can be deep cleaned more quickly and efficiently.

This can be done routinely for long-term residents, or when new residents are due to arrive.

Often curtains are the only item not routinely changed before a new resident moves in

Bed and lockers are disinfected, freshly laundered sheets and pillowcases are put on the bed, but the new guest inherits the same dirty bed curtain, from the last person.

NHS hospitals routinely change curtains four times a year, but care homes more often have no policy other than to examine curtains as a potential source of infection if a problem arises.
