Leading care home operators Salutem Care and the Royal Star & Garter, along with food supplier Bidfood, were amongst those recognised in last week’s Queen’s New Year’s Honours.
Salutem Care and Education CEO, John Godden, (pictured) received an MBE, and Royal Star & Garter Lead Healthcare Assistant, Emrys Owen, was honoured with the British Empire Medal.
John said: “I am immensely proud to have received this honour, which is really a testament to the hard work, dedication and determination of all our staff at Salutem who have continued to go above and beyond to provide the highest levels of care and education during this pandemic.”
Emrys, who received his award for services to veterans during COVID-19, said: “I’m highly delighted that someone like me could receive such an award! It’s mostly the people I have looked after over the years, the stories I have heard and the characters that I have met that makes the job so worthwhile. I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else, it’s an amazing organisation to work for.”
Additionally, Bidfood Supply Chain and Technical Services Director, Jim Gouldie, and Managing Director, Wholesale, Steve Clarke, were awarded with an MBE for their commitment and support to the hospitality sector and those in need during COVID.
Steve said: “I know I speak for both Jim and myself in saying that we are totally bowled over and humbled, and very honoured to have been recognised in this way. And I would like to highlight all our colleagues and the role each and every person played in making things happen and ultimately, in making a real difference to many people’s lives during 2020.”
Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive and Registrar at the NMC, congratulated all nursing and midwifery professionals recognised in the New Year Honours List, saying: “I could not be prouder of the skill, bravery and kindness of nurses, midwives and nursing associates during this most challenging of years. Their important work continues as we start 2021 and I thank them all for the difference they have made and will continue to make.”
