The number of COVID related deaths in care homes has fallen for the second consecutive week, according to the latest statistics.
In its latest weekly update, the ONS said there were 210 notifications to the CQC of COVID related deaths in care homes in England in the week ending 4 February, down from 214 in the week earlier.
Deaths stand at a tenth of the 2,000 per week seen in January 2021.
Just under three quarters of COVID-related deaths (73%) occurred in care homes.
ONS data for care homes in England and Wales (see right) revealed there were 264 deaths involving COVID-19 in the week ending 28 January down from 282 in the week earlier.
New cases in the community in England stood at 48,155 on 7 February down from a peak of over 160,000 at the turn of the year.
There were 34 COVID-related deaths recorded on 7 February against a seven-day average of 346.
