Bupa home in Special Measures following abuse revelations

The CQC has placed Summerville Care Home in Warrington, Cheshire in Special Measures following three abuse incidents.

Inspectors found three substantiated incidents of physical, verbal and financial abuse at the home and also received camera footage from a family member of alleged verbal abuse which it is investigating. The CQC was informed by the home that none of the staff members involved were still employed by the home.

Barry Yarnley, Managing Director for Quality Improvement at Bupa Care Services, said: “We immediately introduced a dedicated improvement team in to the home, who have made good progress.

“The care team has completed additional training and all of our residents’ care plans have been reviewed.  We are also recruiting new team members and have enhanced the social activities that we offer.

“The team will continue to work hard to address the points raised by the inspection so that we can offer better care for everyone.”

Bupa’s Crawfords Walk home was also placed in Special Measures in August after Channel 4’s Dispatches unearthed evidence of physical abuse (see CQC slams Bupa ‘care failure).

Bupa, meanwhile, has agreed to sell 122 of its homes to HC-One (see BREAKING NEWS: HC-One agrees to buy 122 Bupa care homes).
