The number of care home COVID deaths in England and Wales continued to rise in the third week of November but at a much smaller rate than that seen in the first two weeks of the month.
The latest ONS data shows there were 467 COVID-related care home deaths in England and Wales in the week ending 20 November. The rise of 42 deaths in the week was much smaller than the increases of 145 and 112 in the previous two weeks, however.
On a year-to-date basis, there were 17,319 care home deaths in England and Wales up to 20 November.
Deaths involving COVID-19 in care homes as a proportion of all deaths in care homes increased to 18.9%, the highest since the week ending 5 June.
CQC data shows there were 16,575 deaths of residents involving COVID-19 in care homes in England between 10 April and 27 November. Of these deaths, 465 were notified in the week up to 27 November.
Care Inspectorate Wales reported 934 deaths of residents in care homes involving COVID-19 between 1 March and 20 November.
