The number of deaths related to COVID-19 in care homes across England and Wales has fallen once again, following an increase last week.
In its latest weekly statistics, the ONS reported 20 COVID-19 related deaths in the week ending May 21, down by five on the previous week.
Deaths involving COVID-19 in care homes accounted for 1.1% of all deaths in care homes, a decrease from week 19 (1.3%).
The decline follows an increase last week, which marked the first rise in COVID-19 deaths in care homes since January 29.
CQC data shows there were 29,390 deaths of residents between 10 April 2020 and 28 May 2021. Of these deaths, 17 were notified in the week up to 28 May.
In Wales, Care Inspectorate Wales reported 1,920 deaths of residents in care homes involving COVID-19 between 1 March 2020 and 20 May 2021. This figure is unchanged since the previous week.
