COVID related deaths in care homes in England and Wales have fallen by a third for the third consecutive week to their lowest level since November.
The number of people dying with COVID symptoms fell by 266 to 510 in the week ending 26 February, according to the latest ONS statistics.
On a year to date basis, there were 30,884 COVID related deaths in care homes in England and Wales up to 26 February.
Deaths involving COVID-19 accounted for 22% of deaths down from 29.7% in the week earlier.
CQC data revealed there were 28,543 deaths of residents in care homes involving COVID-19 in England between 10 April 2020 and 5 March 2021.
Of these deaths, 252 were notified in the week up to 5 March 2021.
Care Inspectorate Wales reported 1,890 deaths of residents in care homes involving COVID-19 between 1 March 2020 and 26 February 2021.
