Care home COVID-related deaths in England and Wales have dropped by a third for the second week running as the vaccination roll-out continues to pay dividends.
In its latest weekly update, the ONS reported 776 COVID-related deaths in care homes in the week ending 19 February, down by 384 on the previous week.
On a year to date basis, 30,369 COVID-related deaths occurred in care homes up to 19 February.
Deaths involving COVID-19 in care homes accounted for 29.7% of deaths, down from 37.8% in the week earlier.
The CQC reported 28,267 deaths of residents in care homes in England involving COVID-19 between 10 April 2020 and 26 February 2021. Of these, 382 were notified in the week up to 26 February 2021.
Care Inspectorate Wales reported 1,844 deaths of residents involving COVID-19 between 1 March 2020 and 12 February 2021.
