BREAKING NEWS: Care home COVID-19 deaths rise for second week in July

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in care homes in England and Wales has increased for the second consecutive week.

In its latest weekly update, the ONS reported 20 COVID-related care home deaths in the week ending 9 July up from 10 from the previous week.

All of the deaths took place in England. COVID-19 accounted for 1.1% of the total 1,809 deaths in care homes in England and Wales the week.

The CQC reported 10,243 COVID-19 related care home deaths in England between 1 January 2021 and 16 July 2021.

The ONS told CHP it is no longer providing commentary on COVID-19 deaths in care homes in its weekly release.
